What do you do, when you are doing everything right, when every choice you make aligns to who you are, what you want, what you care about, and things still do not work out? We live in a highly competitive world, where people are out to be on top. There is an opponent around every corner, wanting to outdo you and get the advantage. They will stop at nothing to take you down, tarnish your image and put you out of business. How do you handle this?
Groundwork Promotions went into business officially in 2013. We have had some major ups and downs, and because we are such close friends, we have withstood the problems and strategized at every corner to stay on top of our game and stay in business. But things stalled several times because of opposition to our work. As a matter of fact, the more incredible our performance, the more violent the opposition from those not wanting our success. This is the reality of business. This is even the reality of nonprofit work. The world is not a kind place.
Which is why, like Ben’s Bells, we want to “Be Kind” and as Paul says, “Be a force of good in the world.” For as much abuse has come our way (and there has been so much, it could fill more than one book), we have conquered the situation and survived and continued growing and evolving. But I tell you, it is an eye-opener when you come out into your work with your best game, and the opponents are all over you, waiting to make you vulnerable.
We all our vulnerable at some time and the competition wants us to be vulnerable. I know this sounds unrealistic perhaps, but we want to be such a dominant and strong force in our lives and work, that we can protect ourselves and anyone and everyone from these attacks when they work with us. Where we see them coming, see the attempts to destabilize online, and we counter them and in such a way that our clients become more successful and stronger from the experience.
Competition is not a bad thing, it makes us stronger. But it can be dangerous to the survival of the professional person and we want to be a company, who not just promotes you, but markets and promotes you well enough and skillfully enough, we keep you protected from vulnerability. We want success, mutual success. That is and will always be our goal.
