Who are you? Who do you want to be? How do you want to be seen and known by others? Often times, people talk about knowing yourself. About knowing who you are. But in promotions, it’s also about how you want to be seen. You are going to be marketing yourself to the world online, and you will be visible in photos, in videos, or by the way you communicate your messaging and branding. Your products and/or services represent you. But is this the way you want to communicate yourself and be known? Is this the way you want to be seen?
I think it is easy to forget about who we are in relation to the world outside. We think about who we are, but not always about how we are seen by others. And more importantly, are we exercising the control and creativity we have, to impact how people see us. What if we could dictate or control how the world perceives us, and in turn, become more successful because of it. What if, we could exponentially increase our success, just by investing time into ourselves and our presentation. What if we made ourselves part of our professional investment?
When you work with a marketing and promotions company, you most often are thinking about your company, organization or professional services. Rarely do you think about yourself. When we met with clients, I do not remember any client in over 12 years mentioning that they wanted to be seen in a particular way. They usually removed themselves from the equation. Their investment was in the business or organization or campaign, not in themselves.
I have thought about who I wanted to be for over 30 years. I started putting lots of thought and energy into it, investing a great deal of time and training for it. I was serious about creating space and a lifestyle that allowed for it. However, I never thought of it as a professional asset. I never thought of it as my professional presentation. For me, that changes everything.
I founded Groundwork Promotions with Paul in 2013 and when we started it, we did not talk about this idea, creating ourselves professionally. We only spoke about it in a personal way. In the past few years, we have started going deeper into the self-creation process for ourselves, and making our professional lives the focus. We both are breaking new ground for ourselves, by applying self-creation to our professional lives. I’m making it a priority right now.
