Own What You Do

May 18, 2025

I have been offline for awhile. I went through a serious illness, and I hoped I would get better, but did not know what to expect. The illness lasted several years. It kept me from being an active part of Groundwork Promotions, in the way I wanted. I had to completely adapt my involvement. But it worked out to my advantage because I learned a valuable lesson: I need to value, appreciate, and own what I have done, no matter how big or small. We work with small businesses and professionals all the time, and I’m sure many of them do not recognize the value they bring to the table, the gifts they have, and the talents they express through their work. It’s easy to look at the more successful person and think, they are better than you are, because you are smaller in size or less successful. It’s easy to see shortcomings, instead of possibility or potential.

I started Groundwork with Paul and had plans for my future, and I became sick instead. I had so many plans, and instead, I spent several years fighting illness. And during that time, I came to understand that everything I did or have done is valuable. I should own every accomplishment with pride and never think negatively of my work. I sacrificed and invested many years into my learning and acquisition of skills. I should own “everything” I have done.

The good news is, I am miraculously recovering from my illness. I can be present for things in a whole new way now. Before being sick, I did not understand how much I had accomplished in life. Now, I cannot believe how much I have accomplished. I cannot believe how strong I am, and how much I have overcome and continue to overcome. I see my strength so much more.

I still have goals. I still have things I want to do. And the foundation of my future should not be built by focusing on “my deficiencies” only. I need to also recognize, “my accomplishments.” I need to always own what I do.
