Be Kind
When we started Groundwork Promotions, we learned a hard lesson. Do not work with people who are going to make you unhealthy. No matter what your cause or mission, no matter what your beliefs about helping others, when it comes to your health, your professional path, your purpose in what you do, you have to protect it and do not let anyone stand in the way. We work with people who start businesses and organizations, and they have staff and volunteers, they have customers and members, they have donors, and they have social relationships all across the board. They are surrounded by people of different personalities and mindsets. How do you protect your own interests? Is it possible? How do you keep from sacrificing your own health and well-being at the expense of others?
Our mission statement talks about the word “mutual” in the working relationships we have and we really believe this. If you are successful, and we are not, it is not worth it. If you make money, and we do not, it’s not a good relationship. If you are healthy and we are not, we need to part ways. Our relationship should be mutually beneficial, that is how Groundwork Promotions does business. That is our mission and philosophy and we will not waver.
I admire people who are able to handle the demands, especially when it comes to relationships. I love to see people who can commit themselves to a cause or philosophy and still protect their own health and the health of their staff and/or employees. To lead in any situation means, you are looking out for many people besides yourself and you have to have all of them in your mind when you make decisions. You have to know how to protect yourself and protect them too, and fight for the interest and health of everyone involved.
We decided in the beginning, with one of our very first clients and our biggest wake up call, we would never enter into a working relationship where we left sick and depleted and feeling less confident and capable than we were before. We made the decision as a group, that we would work for mutually beneficial, mutually successful, and mutually healthy relationships, even if it meant making less money in the beginning. Mutual is and always will be, our way of doing business. It will always be GroundworkStyle.
