How do you know when someone is telling you the truth? Especially when you are shopping for combat training or specialized martial arts training? People say they are knowledgeable and they advertise themselves as equipped to teach the proper skills. They affirm they are a safe place to learn and your health and protection are top priority. What do we even ask, before we choose the right gym and instructor for learning any type of combat training? This is a real challenge because I chose to learn combat when we moved to Tucson, and I picked the wrong place and instructor. I paid for it for years, and still pay for it. You have to be careful.
There is a lot of pressure on gym owners to run a business for people to learn and gain skills, to train and workout, and to protect their safety. Your members are lifting weights, they are running, they are punching, they are kicking, they are doing strenuous activity for the body. And instructors are teaching them combat skills, whether just basic fighting skills or specialized martial arts, like muay thai or jiu-jitsu. It takes dedication, commitment, and devotion to protecting your members while you are giving them the best experiences of their life. You are helping them with so many things, and teaching them how to protect themselves. They are relying on you to provide quality instruction and to not let them get hurt.
Groundwork Promotions has worked with great instructors and business owners, and some bad ones. We started out with some major difficulties because we did not know how to judge in the beginning. It took some time and learning what to look for. It really isn’t easy. And it’s not easy for gym owners to monitor everything going on and keep instruction quality high, safety a priority, and still run the business for profit. Business owners have so much pressure, so many responsibilities, and that’s one of the reasons we love what we do, because we get to help them with the load. We want them to trust us, to know we care, to know we want them to be profitable, and to let us lead with the marketing, promotions, and media creation. If they let us lead, then they can focus on running their business, taking care of their customers and members, and rest easy knowing they are taken care of by us. We want to ALWAYS have their back.
