Paul recently met Carl van Roon in person, and was immediately struck by his personality and passion for martial arts. Paul said he felt joy watching him train and instruct. He said
“Carl integrates the traditions of martial arts, technique and culture, with modern styles and creativity. He has done the work himself, in his own studies and training, where he now effortlessly integrates all styles and disciplines in his instruction.”
Paul also said, “He made me love martial arts again, just being in the studio and observing.”
Carl van Roon is the client I know least about, since Paul and I did not discuss him before Paul’s trip to Auckland. I am a lover of martial arts, and I was drawn to his work immediately. Observing the photographs, I am immediately struck by his intensity, his mastery and his focus. He is an extremely focused man with a purpose and vision. It is obvious he is going somewhere.
I also noticed the painting on his wall, and how it reminded me of the writing I did between 2019-2021, when I was researching and writing about warrior mind, spirituality and martial arts. I intellectually and spiritually meditated on many different styles, as well as samurai and martial arts masters. And I brought my study of religion and mysticism into the mix. Most of his pictures on the wall, match the masters I used in my meditation. So of course, I like Carl already.
