A Whole New World

Because of something I am doing, I have been looking into the process of forming research centers and/or institutes at universities and also privately. Being both intellectually and athletically invested, I wanted to create research that enabled one to use both body and mind, a whole immersive research experience. While investigating, I also began seeing opportunities for promotions at a whole different level. I had never thought of it this way, but it has been done with business and technology for years, where companies and founders start research centers and philanthropic organizations to spread their knowledge, their philosophy and work towards an altruistic cause. You get your name out in the world in a whole new way and strengthen your recognition, your brand and legacy, and maybe even further your own purpose for what you do.

I have explored universities and programs, and there are few if any that offer deeper studies of martial arts, yoga, or sports (like bodybuilding). For example, Groundwork Promotions has worked with Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes and instructors for years, and I thought how wonderful it would be to offer university instruction on the history, the lineage, the technical aspects, the variation of styles even within Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and to even offer language training (for martial arts originating in other countries), and spiritual training for martial arts closely connected with a particular religious influence. Then, founders and world-known athletes and instructors could be advisors with research. They could assist in the understanding, dissemination and analysis of the information. At the same time, one could physically be committed to physical training and practice locally and world-wide. This would be a fantastic experience, to explore jiu-jitsu in so many ways with so many well-known founders and masters.

The same could be for yoga. Some of the best schools and lineages are located all over the world, and there are many contemporary gurus who are famous for new styles and approaches to yoga. To be able to work with them, create an academic and research center and concentration in studies, and then physically do research with the body, and experience everything at the same time, would be incredible for students. And it would be a form of promotions for the people involved. Schools, founders, lineages, athletes would be able to associate with the programs, with the centers, and allow themselves to be connected to the research. They could invest monetarily, support scholarships for study, and have their names on published research.

I have seen this with languages, and wanted to do it myself. To completely immerse myself in the language, the culture and religious study. For example, you study a language like Sanskrit with a well-known expert in the field, you do fieldwork in India and/or another country which has a rich Sanskrit background, and then you write and publish research in that language or about the language. The experts in the field are your advisors, and they guide you through the process. There is no greater fulfillment then working with people of knowledge, learning with them, and then being able to master knowledge because of their help. But until now, I had never thought about or realized the importance promotions could have in the process, in the establishment and longevity of the people involved and their professional life. How promotions can help further their causes, names, organizations, companies, ideas etc. It’s a whole new world opening to my mind.
